ABOUT US

Founded in 2024, Zongozon is more than just a boutique — it’s a vibrant hub of culture, craftsmanship, and African pride. Located at 43 Whalley Avenue as part of the Shops at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut, Zongozon brings a colorful energy to the neighborhood with its curated selection of African-inspired fashion, jewelry, accessories, and skincare.

At the heart of Zongozon is Mariam Jafaru, a Ghanaian-born creative whose love for sewing began in childhood. After working 16 years as a registered nurse, Mariam decided to pursue her lifelong passion for fashion full-time. What started as an idea to design African-print scrubs has grown into a full-scale boutique.

Zongozon offers a wide array of products: from custom-made dresses, bonnets, and bags to dazzling gold-plated jewelry, authentic African prints, beaded waist and ankle jewelry, stylish hijabs, and nourishing African skincare. Many of the pieces are handcrafted or sourced directly from West African countries such as Ghana, Mali, and Nigeria.

Whether you’re searching for a statement outfit, a meaningful gift, or a custom piece tailored to your vision, Zongozon welcomes you with open arms. Through pop-up events and in-store experiences, Mariam continues to share her love for fashion, culture, and community—one stitch at a time.
